Ippon Karate Dojo has been part of the Cochrane martial arts community since 2005. Founded by Sensei Adam Wackershauser during his competitive karate career, Ippon began with one instructor, a handful of students, and a simple goal: bring together people who wanted to train hard, learn authentic karate, and continually improve.
Within our first year, Ippon athletes were already competing at the Canadian National Championships while our children's karate program continued to grow. Today, Ippon Karate offers karate classes in Cochrane, Alberta for children, teens, adults, beginners, recreational students, and competitive athletes.
Our approach combines the traditions and values of karate with modern coaching, sport science, and effective training methods. Students develop practical martial arts skills while building confidence, discipline, fitness, coordination, focus, and resilience.
Whether you're looking for kids karate in Cochrane, a new way to stay active as an adult, self-defence skills, or an opportunity to pursue competitive karate, there is a place for you at Ippon.
Our athletes have progressed from their first karate class to provincial, national, and international competition, including representing Team Canada. But success at Ippon isn't measured only by medals. LIL’ TIGERS KARATE | AGES 4–6
Our Lil’ Tigers Karate Program is specially designed for children ages 4–6 in Cochrane, Alberta. Through fun, energetic and age-appropriate karate classes, young students develop the fundamental skills they need to succeed in martial arts, sports and everyday life.
Each class combines karate fundamentals with games and activities that build coordination, balance, listening skills, focus, confidence and discipline—all while keeping kids active and having fun.
Our goal is to create a positive first experience with martial arts where every child can learn, grow and feel successful.

KIDS, YOUTH & ADULT KARATE | AGES 7-12
Our Kids, Youth & Adult Karate Programs offer high-quality karate training in Cochrane, Alberta for everyone from complete beginners to experienced martial artists and competitive athletes.
Our Kids Karate Program (ages 7–12) combines traditional karate with modern, engaging training methods that develop fitness, coordination, focus, confidence, discipline and practical self-defence skills. Students progress through a structured pathway toward Black Belt, with additional opportunities for those interested in competitive karate.
Our Youth & Adult Karate Program (ages 13+) provides challenging and enjoyable training for all experience levels. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defence, earning a Black Belt, competition or learning a lifelong martial art, you'll develop real karate skills while becoming part of a supportive training community.
